October Antics

Animal Therapy On the 23rd of October, Marcus from Rocky’s Animals came to our Carshalton centre with selection of 20 very different animals. From Pigmy goats, a chicken and a Duck to Frogs, a Tarantula and Snakes. Students had the best time holding, interacting and learning about all our visitors.

Salon International Hairdressing Students travelled to Excel London to visit Salon International. Students were able to watch demonstrations and shows as well as peruse stalls selling equipment, & products.

Science Museum Our Steps Students Visited the Science museum for their environment exhibition. Students loved the interactive learning space and so many of them overcame a huge barrier by even attending the trip.

Halloween Activities Our Carshalton centre has been a hive of Halloween activities with Pumpkin carving, spooky make-up master classes, Halloween hair styles, creepy cooking resulting in an epic Halloween celebration. Staff and students struck a pose in fancy dress and were transported to all manner of places by the creative media students who used a green screen.

Support Spotlight Billie-Jai — I knew I wanted to be a Learning Support Assistant at Sutton and District Training because I was a student here myself, studying Hairdressing. Now, I have the pleasure of supporting Creative Media students, and I genuinely enjoy watching them grow both academically and personally. Being part of their journey is incredibly rewarding, and I love helping them overcome challenges and achieve their goals.

Jess— This is my second academic year at Sutton district, as an LSA, it has become a huge part of my life, I enjoy watching learners grow, succeed, and feel safe at SDT. Supporting students who go through struggles, and watching them overcome these is extremely rewarding,  being able to go home knowing you have made a difference to someone’s day. Every day is new with lessons to be learnt. I was, a student at SDT 16 years ago & it remains the safe place and stepping stone it was for me. Our learners have equal opportunities, feel believed in and supported in all aspects of their education and life.
