
STEPS
Our STEPs Provision has been designed for students with additional needs and focuses on Employability & Life Skills with 'Preparation for Adulthood' goals, enhancing confidence and coping skills. STEPS is ideal for students who are not yet ready to access a vocational pathway. This department has the highest staff to student ratio.
Our STEPS programme is perfectly designed to provide a nurturing and highly supportive environment.
Course Content and Key Information:
Entry Level Awards and Certificates in Employability offers personalised modules for example: money Management, travel training and interview preparation. A robust PfA curriculum where learners cover topics such as: Internet safety, keeping safe in the community, accessing support, form filling and making appointments. Alongside the PfA curriculum learners have access to our ‘Mock Flat’ where they can build independent living skills such as changing and making the bed, laundry, ironing and other household chores. Learners will also participate in weekly cooking sessions. Students can access work experience with LSA support, as part of our work skills curriculum.
Upon completion of STEPs, learners can access their chosen vocational area or move onto our Pathways to Progression provision. Our aim is to empower students for success in both work and independent living.
Sutton and District Training strive to make all our vocations accessible to young people with SEND, within STEPs class tutors and LSA’s introduce vocational language and terminology and allowing over-teaching to solidify their learning. Adaptive assessment methods such as allowing audio recordings in place of written assignments ensure that all learners can achieve their full potential. Units are selected each year to suit the cohort of learners. Students complete weekly 1:1 EHCP outcome sessions to directly support our learners making progress on all of their targets,
Learners will also have access to the Preparation for Adulthood & work skills curriculum. As well as enrichment activities and trips to escape rooms (adapted for SEND learners).
Students are assessed on an individual basis to ensure we can meet all needs.

Entry Requirements
There are no entry requirements for this course. An initial assessment will be carried out to determine the level at which is best suited for each learner.
